PORT SALERNO, Fla. —
Members of the community will have a chance to visit the "Salerno Colored School" and see a little bit of history in Port Salerno this weekend.
The historic one-room schoolhouse was built in 1930 and was one of the first schools built in Martin County to educate Black children.

The school closed in the 1960s and was later used for band practices and after-school recreation programs. It sustained damage caused by hurricanes in the early 2000s and was restored in 2013.
It was added to the Martin County historic register in 2013.
