'Capt. Don' Voss dies at 70; started volunteer dive group that cleans Indian River Lagoon

The Indian River Lagoon is a cleaner place thanks to Donald "Capt. Don" Voss.

A founder of the Marine Cleanup Initiative, a volunteer group of divers who clean litter and debris out of the lagoon and its inlets, Voss died early Sunday at his home in Fort Pierce.

He also was head of the One Florida Foundation, which has had run-ins with other environmental organizations on the Treasure Coast.

Voss was 70. The cause of death was heart failure, said his wife, Dyana Voss. He also had been battling intestinal cancer. His death was not related to Hurricane Irma, she said…
