Everglades advocates come to Washington hoping funding promise kept

WASHINGTON — Energized and unified, scores of Everglades advocates have gathered this week in the nation's capital to — once again — demand the federal government pony up its share of the bill to restore Florida's River of Grass.

They've got a large task ahead.

It was bad enough the Trump administration proposed $76 million in its 2018 budget — far less than the $200 million Washington was expected to provide under the parameters of a deal struck between Florida and the Clinton administration in 2000.

But when the president in February unveiled his $4.4 trillion budget for next year, it only included $67 million, or roughly a third of its expected share…
