Florida worker shortage may end with minimum wage increase, unemployment benefit decrease

One year ago, an empty conference room at a hotel might have meant a company had to postpone its seminar because of the coronavirus pandemic. This month, it meant the challenge to hire workers continues for some businesses.

Health care provider Wellpath held a two-day job fair at the Courtyard by Marriott Stuart near Interstate 95 on June 2-3. A recruiter from the private company based in Nashville, Tennessee had hoped to interview several candidates for a couple of job openings for licensed practical nurses and mental health counselors at the St. Lucie County jail. 

Just one person showed.
